Why doesn’t ChatGPT recommend my plumbing company?
Because ChatGPT does not know enough about it. ChatGPT builds a local answer from what it can read: Yelp and Bing results, your website, directories and reviews. If your pages do not say which jobs you do, in which city, and when you are open, or your listings disagree with each other, it names a company whose information is complete, usually a national chain or a directory’s top result. A 2026 index found 87% of independent HVAC and plumbing contractors have no AI citations in their own city. The fix is specific: one page per service and city, the same name, phone and licence number on every listing, and reviews that describe the job.
Do AI assistants really recommend plumbers and HVAC companies?
Yes. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity who to call for a burst pipe in your city and you get a short list of named companies with reasons. Homeowners already do this, especially for urgent jobs.
How do I see what AI says about my company?

Does my licence matter to AI assistants?

Does it matter which city I check?
Completely. AI assistants name different companies in different cities, even for the same question. A company that serves three cities needs three checks.
Can an agency guarantee a ChatGPT recommendation?
No. There is no paid placement inside an AI answer. Anyone who promises a position is guessing. What can be done is measured: fix what the assistants read, then check again.
